BLOOMINGTON — Judith Bohrer Norton, 70, a lifetime resident of Bloomington, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2013) at the Myerling in Bloomington, where she had been a resident for four years. Prior, Judy had lived in the neighborhood nearby on Pierce Avenue for over 40 years.

The graveside inurnment service for Mrs. Norton will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, with the Rev. Andy Gifford officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke Union Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Judy was born June 26, 1942, in Bloomington, the daughter of Joseph Fifer and Margaret Leitch Bohrer. She married Jerry P. Norton on June 4, 1966, in Bloomington.

Surviving is a son, Joseph Wayne Norton; a daughter-in-law, Miwako Kobayashi Norton; and a Siamese cat, Yoda, living in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan.

Her sister, Anny Bohrer Tyson, preceded her in death.

Judy was a graduate of Bloomington High School and attended Lincoln Community College in Lincoln, and a nursing college in Massachusetts.

She had worked as a baker at Bloomington Junior High School and at Illinois Wesleyan University. Before retirement, Judy worked as a daycare teacher at Chesterbrook Academy.

Judy was a member of St. Luke Union Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered at church functions and youth group events. She was a volunteer at the Children’s Discovery Museum of Bloomington-Normal and was also a volunteer for prison ministry connecting children and mothers, whereby children were given books/recordings read by their mothers.

Judy loved her neighborhood, spring flower planting, summer gardening and spending time with friends and family in her backyard pool. She loved her Siamese cat, Yoda, and the two were often seen driving around and visiting town together.
