Gene Wright, 75, of Bloomington, sunk his final putt at 2 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 21, 2017) at his home.

His celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington. The Rev. Dr. Andrew Gifford will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.

Gene was born Aug. 14, 1942, in Normal, to Homer and Imogene Lanham Wright. He married Lynne Stenerson on Aug. 27, 1966, in Belvidere. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Matt (Traci) Wright, Heyworth; one sister, Ruth Weatherwax, Bloomington; and two grandchildren, Aiden and Skylar Wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Phyllis Wright, Ethyl Walters, and Thelma Lambert.
He was a 1967 graduate of Illinois State University, earning a degree in business administration, and served his country in the National Guard. He retired in 2004 as a purchasing specialist from State Farm, where he spent 38 years.

He was an active member of Lakeside Country Club and Elks Lodge 281, where he served as exalted ruler and was a past district deputy grand exalted ruler. Gene was committee chair of Boy Scouts Troop 12 for six years in Bloomington. He loved golf, woodworking and collecting stamps and coins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Sweet Home Ministries or a charity of the donor’s choice.
